Laura Jean Yu

LMFT: Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist

LPCC: Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor

I have a Masters in Counseling Psychology (2015) from the University of San Francisco, and a Bachelors in Psychology from USC. I began working with children as an elementary school counselor in 2014 during traineeship with YMCA, and found it to be extremely rewarding. I have over 10 years of clinical experience working with a range of mental health symptoms, including adults struggling with anxiety, depression, work stress, relationship issues, and self-esteem.

I provide counseling support to children and families from a developmental perspective. I am certified in the Positive Parenting Program to address common behavioral issues at home/school. I look forward to working with your child to help develop a sense of self-agency, confidence and future life skills.

In my free time, I enjoy going to the park with my husband Doug, 3 year-old daughter Isabella and our corgi Merlin. I am bilingual and speak Mandarin Chinese!

Areas of Focus

  • Parent-Child Relationships

Help parents understand developmental stages and support their children in building the skills and confidence needed at each phase. My work focuses on strengthening secure attachment, improving communication, and promoting healthy emotional and behavioral growth.

  • Anxiety

I support children, teens, and adults experiencing anxiety by identifying triggers, teaching practical coping skills, and building resilience. Treatment focuses on reducing worry, managing physical symptoms, and restoring a sense of control in daily life.

  • Depression

Depression can make even simple tasks feel overwhelming. I work collaboratively to increase motivation, address negative thinking patterns, and build routines that support emotional stability and well-being. Treatment may include behavior activation, emotional regulation strategies, and strengthening protective factors.

  • Neurodivergence

Assess and provide support for symptoms of ADHD and Autism Spectrum Disorder. My approach centers on understanding strengths, reducing shame, and promote greater functioning at home, school, or work.

  • Destigmatize

I aim to destigmatize mental health and work with you in finding the path that best fits your needs without labels and stereotypical approaches, honoring each of our unique lived experiences.

  • Early Psychosis

I help clients and families navigate early or prodromal signs of thought disorder. Support may include psychoeducation, coping and grounding strategies, and building routines that improve functioning and reduce distress. My goal is to intervene early, increase insight, and promote long-term wellness.
